Project owner is DNV Research, in close cooperation with Christian Michelsen Research, Grieg Shipping Group and Grieg Logistics. Program is managed by DNV Research and financed through The Research Council of Norway. Furthermore the project will associate with a set of reference harbor managements to develop real time cases on ship and port interaction.

Main objective is to utilize maritime surveillance, navigation and harbor data in computerized solution to make better decisions in the coordination between ship and harbor, for the benefit of both shipowners, and harbor management.

Lack of communication in today's management systems leads to unnecessary delays before a ship can enter a harbor. Speed adjustments of vessel and optimal selection of destination harbor adjusted to actual harbor capacity is not an issue in current decision making systems. This leads in the end to unnecessary fuel consumption and queuing.

New technology opens to optimize coordination between ship and harbor by visualizing capacity in harbor, planning goods movement and giving ship management better information to decide optimized speed and destination. This will improve overall profit potential and also support present focus environmental ship operations.

SynchroPort's objective is to discuss the potential of such a coordination between ship and port. Furthermore to visualize this through a demonstration to get an idea of how this can be carried out in a modern maritime management system.
